If you have plugged Tap into a USB port and after several minutes the device is not recognized by the computer, try the following to determine whether it is a connection issue or a hardware problem:
- Check the physical connections — make sure all cables and connections are plugged in tightly and correctly.
- Try a different USB port — sometimes a USB port on your system may have an issue.
- Try a different USB cable if one is available.
- In Windows — open Device Manager to check that driver is properly installed. Device Manager in the Windows Operating System (OS) lets you view and control the hardware attached to the computer. When a piece of hardware is not working, it may not be listed or may show a yellow exclamation point (yellow bang) next to the identified hardware to indicate there is an issue.
To access Device Manager:
- Click the Windows Start icon.
- Type “Device Manager” in the search bar to the right of the start icon.
- Confirm that Tap is shown under one or all of the following depending on your configuration and setup:
- Audio inputs and outputs
- Cameras or Imaging Devices
- Sound, video and game controllers
- Universal Serial Bus devices
If Tap isn’t listed under any of the above sections, try the following:
- Try a different USB port
- Check if Windows Update is enabled. Windows Update is a Microsoft Service which automatically downloads and installs updates over the internet to the OS.
To access and enable Windows Update:- Click the Windows Start icon
- Type "Windows Update" in the search bar to the right of the start icon.
- Note: Windows Update settings are controlled by the Administrator of your system — you may need to contact your IT department if you cannot access Windows Update.
If Tap is listed but has a yellow exclamation point, then try the following:
- In Device Manager, right-click on the device with the yellow exclamation icon, (it may be listed as Tap or as an Unknown device), then click Update Driver.
- In the Update dialog, select Update Driver.
- Select Search automatically for updated driver software.
- Select the Logitech Tap driver that is listed.
If you've tried all of these steps and still have an issue, you may have a faulty device or cable. If you have another Tap and can try the cable(s) from that device, we recommend doing that first. If the problem persists, please contact Support.
